History of the Bowls Centre

History of the Robert B Massey Memorial Trust Pavilion and Bowling Green.

The Centre was created when a group of local folk approached Mrs Muriel Massey with a request to support the creation of a bowls facility in Market Weighton to serve the town and local villages.  Land and financial support was offered for this project and the Robert B Massey Memorial Trust (The Trust) was created.

In 1991 the Pavilion opened for Indoor Short Mat Bowls and the Green was opened for Outdoor Lawn Bowls in 1992. An extension to the indoor facility was added in 2005 which is named The Muriel Massey Hall.

Since the opening of the Centre Indoor and Outdoor Bowls competitions and leagues have been held.  Several of the Regular User members have been successful in gaining regional and national honours both in playing and management roles.

The social side of the Centre (The Club) attracts members from the town and surrounding area to participate in twice weekly afternoon Indoor Bowls sessions as well as some weekend events throughout the year.

The Centre is also hired for private functions.
